Agricalture and Agroforestry

Agriculture accounts for 46.3 percent of the nation’s Gross domestic Product (GDP), 83.9 percent of exports, and 80% of the labour force. Many other economic activities depend on agriculture, including marketing, processing, and export of agricultural products.

The Abyssinia Natural Resources Development and Environmental Protection Charity has involved in large hectare of land bamboo timber production/plantation on its own land and by creating a partnership with bamboo out-grower smallholder farmers and forest owners. The charity has bamboo seedling nursery and many of the community members has got job opportunity through it.

The charity works bamboo plantation activities directly and indirectly by supporting out grower smallholder farmers& forest owners by providing seeds and seedlings as well as trainings on bamboo plantation, plantation management and marketing that provides guaranteed returns to farmers. Among these Women are also involved. Sustainable management of bamboo natural forest through participatory forest management is one of the project components which enable to benefit the rural community to utilize the bamboo culms.

The charity also engages in agroforestry of integration of trees and fruits into crop and animal farming systems to create environmental, economic, and social benefits.
